Love is in the air today and as excited as I am to participate in the Valentine’s Day festivities, I’m also a bit confused with the advertised connotation around the much anticipated day of LOVE! It seems as though over the years Valentine’s Day has only become more and more stressful. The expectations surrounding the holiday have really become flagrantly materialistic; chocolates, flowers, jewelry, fancy dinners and hallmark cards are all part of the cookie cutter, “PERFECT Valentine’s Day”. I’m not saying these things aren’t ok, by all means shower your significant other with gifts. But why only receive and give these glamorously romantic gifts today and when did it become so consumer oriented? Let’s take a step back, and take it back to basics, what are we celebrating today? The answer is, LOVE!
V Day has Good Intentions
Our heart is our most important instrument and the love we give is our magical power. Today, let’s observe this magical power and the change we can create with love and affection. Let’s make it a national observance of our love, our love for ourselves, our love for our partners, our friends and family, the trees, the earth and all of humanity. You see, I feel as though Valentine’s Day actually started with really good intentions, but through the years, the message got lost in translation.
Everyone loves LOVE. So let’s celebrate Valentines today and remember what it truly signifies. Let’s be inspired by today, to give, to receive and express our love freely, but not only today, but every other day as well.
